Before Whisper can detect meetings and record calls, Spiky needs a few system permissions. You'll usually see this as a System Check screen the first time you open the app.
Required permissions
Permission | Why Whisper needs it |
Accessibility | Detect meetings (Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Slack Huddle) and identify speakers |
Microphone | Record your voice |
Screen & Audio | Capture the meeting screen and other participants' audio |
Optional on macOS:
Permission | Why it helps |
Full Disk Access | Improves auto-detection of Microsoft Teams meeting URLs |
How to grant permissions
Open the Spiky Desktop App.
If the System Check screen appears, click each permission row to open System Settings.
Enable Spiky for that permission.
Return to Spiky — the app checks again automatically.
When all required permissions show Granted, click Continue to Spiky.
You can also review permissions later in Settings.
macOS tips
After granting Screen & Audio or Accessibility, macOS may require a quick app restart.
If a toggle is on but Spiky still shows Denied, turn it off/on again, then quit and reopen Spiky.
Make sure you're enabling permissions for Spiky (not a similarly named app).
Windows tips
Allow microphone access for Spiky in Windows privacy settings.
If capture fails, confirm Spiky isn't blocked by antivirus or OS privacy controls.
Restart Spiky after changing permission settings.
If you can't continue past System Check
Confirm all three required permissions are Granted.
Quit Spiky completely and reopen it.
Re-open System Settings from the permission row and verify Spiky is enabled.
