  • macOS 12 Monterey or later, or

  • Windows 10 or later

1) Install, sign in, permissions

  1. Install Spiky Desktop and sign in (email/password or Google / Microsoft / Apple).

Step

What you do

Quick Settings

Language, Audio vs Video mode, Whisper Only (no bot joins)

You can skip steps and finish later in Settings.

3) Home tour

Home tour covers:

  • Meeting detection popup → Record

  • Upcoming meetings from calendar

  • Manual start: Video Call (URL) or Desktop Audio (no URL)

  • Try Demo before a real customer call

4) Pick a recording mode

Video Call — Zoom / Meet / Teams / Slack Huddle (detection popup or paste URL).

Desktop Audio — phone, dialer, in-person. Captures mic + computer audio. Speakers show as Host / Guest (not full named attendee lists). Add research manually if needed.

5) First live session

  1. Start recording (or Try Demo).

  2. Optional: Quick Tips → Checklist + Template.

  3. Use the Live stream + Ask Scribe during the call.

  4. Stop Recording when done.

Whisper Settings

Open Settings from your profile menu anytime. Here’s what each block does:

Appearance

Switch between light and dark theme for the Spiky window.

Recording Mode

  • Audio Only — recommended; reliable audio with lower resource use

  • Video + Audio — also captures screen content (heavier on the system)

Default Transcription Language

Sets the default language for transcription. You can still change language per meeting when you start recording.

Calendar & Bot Settings

Whisper Only Mode — when on, the Spiky bot does not join calendar meetings. Calendar stays connected for upcoming meetings and context; you record locally with Whisper.

Window Behavior

  • Start Spiky on system login — launches in the background so detection is ready; closing the window keeps Spiky in the menu bar / tray

  • Auto-scale window on recording start — shrinks the window when a recording begins

  • Default window position — where the app appears when first opened (corners / sides)

Notifications

  • Show meeting detection notifications — Record popup when Zoom / Meet / Teams is detected

  • Auto-start recording on meeting detection — skips the confirm popup (countdown; you can cancel)

  • Show Try Demo button — toggles the Home demo entry point

Privacy

Hide during screen share — hides Spiky while you’re sharing your screen (leave off for DisplayLink / AirPlay setups if needed).

Permissions

Review Accessibility, Microphone, Screen & Audio (and optional Full Disk Access). Details: Permissions Setup for Whisper.
